Bambu’s Official Packing Guide: https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/x1/manual/packing-X1-series

Requirements for unofficial packaging:

  • Box must be at least 19x19x22in.
  • Box must be at least double-walled.
    • Boxes from Home Depot, U-Haul, and other “Moving” type establishments are not fit for shipping purposes.
  • Printer must be supported by hard padding and soft padding where able.
    • Hard packaging is considered a material like dense open-cell foam.
  • Packing tape should not be used directly on the printer or glass components.
  • Approval from MatterHackers Technicians is REQUIRED before closing the box and shipping the printer out.

Note: Most shipping companies like FedEx and UPS will pack anything you bring to them, though this will cost in materials, it can reduce chances of damage in transit. Proper packaging will help mitigate or prevent restocking fees due to damage in transit.

Preparing the printer before packaging

  1. Home the bed to the bottom of the chamber.  If you still have thin, dense foam, place it under the bed before lowering it fully.  If not, a soft foam or fabric material will work as well.

Note: If you are unable to power the printer on, you can turn it on its side and manually pull the Z-Belt to raise and lower the bed.

  1. Remove the outside attachments (Steps 2-5 in the Official packing guide)
    1. Touchscreen
    2. Rear spool mount
    3. AMS Buffer and PTFE tubes
    4. 4 and 6 pin BUS cables

Note: If you do not have the original accessories box, please bag or box these items up so they do not scratch the machine or screen.

  1. Secure the printhead to the back right corner of the chamber
    1. If you are able, please wrap the print head up in some manner to keep the front cover from dislodging in transit.

  1. If you had an AMS as part of the combo, it will need to be returned as well. Once the bed is at the bottom, drop the AMS in from the top of the printer.
    1. Remove any and all spools from the AMS before packing it into the printer.
      1. If you did not have a safe place to store the screen and accessories, the inside of the AMS is perfect, just pad the inside so they don't bounce around.
    2. If you do not have the original AMS mounting bracket, take care to secure the AMS with padding in the printer.
    3. Additional padding should be placed on top of the AMS to help gap-fill the top and protect the glass top.
  2. Secure the top glass and door with Blue Painters tape or similar minimal residue tapes.
    1. If painters tape is not available, the padding around the outside of the printer should help with this need.
  3. Add padding to the bottom of the box before placing the printer inside.
    1. dense foam or crushable padding should be used to help soften drops in transit.
  4. Insert the printer and place padding around all 4 sides.
  5. Pad the top of the printer and wait for approval from MatterHackers Tech's before closing the box for shipping.
