BeamBox (Pro) Firmware Error
This guide is intended to be referenced if your Flux BeamBox or BeamBox Pro is not booting properly, or a recent firmware update was interrupted and you are now seeing a Raspberry Pi user interface (UI) on the touch screen. There are two methods to restoring the firmware on your machine; please follow them sequentially.
UPDATE VIA USB DRIVE:
The original Flux guide may be referenced here.
1. Make sure your USB drive is formatted as FAT32 and the storage size is less than 64GB
2. Download the latest firmware file (with .fxfw as the file extension) for your machine and copy it to the root folder of the USB drive -- there should be no other files on the USB drive
3. Rename the file to autoupdate.fxfw
4. Plug the USB drive into the rear USB port on the machine and restart it. The update process should take about 3 - 5 minutes
5. Remove the USB drive once the update is complete. If you see the Flux menu options on the screen after the boot process has completed, then you are good to go!
REFLASHING THE SD CARD:
If the above process did not resolve your boot issue, please follow the below steps for reflashing the Flux operating system image to the Raspberry Pi Micro-SD card. The original Flux guide may be referenced here.
This process will require the following tools:
- Philips screw driver
- Micro-USB reader
- Start by unplugging the power cord and removing the single retaining screw for the electronics access panel. Once removed, simply lift the front edge of the cover to access the electronics compartment
- Once you have access to the electronics compartment, locate the mainboard with the attached Raspberry Pi (green circuit boards in front). Remove the Micro-SD card from the Raspberry Pi by pushing down until you hear a "click", then pull to remove
- Download the Flux BeamBox system ISO file from here and extract the zipped file -- you can use 7Zip to extract the file. Then download and install the balenaEtcher flashing software, which will be used to flash the new ISO file to the Micro-SD card
- Connect the Micro-SD card via a card reader to your computer, then open balenaEtcher and proceed with the onscreen steps to flash the new ISO file. This process can take upwards of 20-30 minutes
- Once the ISO file has been flashed to the Micro-SD card, eject the card from your computer then reinsert it into the Raspberry Pi. Be sure that you hear the "click", which signifies that the card is fully inserted
- Plug the power cord back in and boot up the machine. If you see the Flux menu options on the screen after the boot process has completed, then you are good to go!
